How to Become a CA?

In India, a Chartered Accountant (CA) is a professional designation given to accounting experts. Becoming a CA requires clearing three levels of examinations conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

To become eligible to take the CA exams, one must have completed at least two years of practical training in an accounting firm or as an employee in the finance department of a company. The ICAI conducts an entrance exam called the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) for candidates who wish to pursue the CA course.

How many Levels in CA Course ?

CA Foundation Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the CA Foundation, candidates must go through the CA Foundation eligibility criteria and check if they are eligible to appear for the exam:

Candidate must have passed or appeared in this year for Class 12 or any equivalent examination carried out by a recognized board.
Candidates registered for the CA Foundation must have undergone a minimum of 4 months of the study period before appearing for the foundation exam.

How To Apply For CA Foundation

CA Foundation registration is expected to start from 1st week of February. ICAI will release official notification for the upcoming exam shortly and we will update you regarding the further updates from ICAI.
Candidates can apply for the exam in the online mode from the official website. Candidates have to successfully apply and make the payment before the last date to ensure further processing of the application form.
Once you have registered with ICAI it will be valid for the period of three years. Candidates can attempt for CA Foundation exam for a maximum of six times as the exam is conducted twice a year. however, If you need to extend the validity of your registration, you can do so by paying the applicable fees to ICA

CA Foundation Exam Pattern

CA Foundation exam consists of 4 papers. Paper 1 and Paper 2 consists of subjective type questions. Paper 3 and Paper 4 consists of objective type questions.

Each paper carries 100 marks and the maximum duration is 3 hours.
Paper 3 and paper 4 have the negative marking scheme and 1/4th of the marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
Candidates must score a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the papers to pass the CA Foundation exam.
